The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, a 1990 BBC television adaptation, revisits the magical world of Narnia decades after the events of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. This installment finds Eustace Scrubb, now a student at Experiment House, unexpectedly reunited with Narnia alongside his classmate Jill Pole. Their arrival is far from ordinary; they are summoned by the great lion Aslan himself, who bestows upon Jill four crucial signs to guide their perilous quest. Their mission: to find the lost Prince Rilian, the son of the now elderly King Caspian X, who vanished ten years prior while seeking revenge for his mother's death.
Embarking on their journey, Eustace and Jill are accompanied by Puddleglum, a melancholic but steadfast Marsh-wiggle. This unlikely trio ventures into the wild and untamed northern lands of Narnia, facing treacherous bogs and encounters with strange creatures. Their path leads them to the imposing castle of Harfang, inhabited by seemingly hospitable giants who harbor a sinister secret. Escaping their clutches, the travelers continue their search, following the cryptic clues given by Aslan, which often seem contradictory and difficult to interpret.
Their quest eventually leads them to the bleak and mysterious Underworld, a subterranean realm ruled by the enigmatic Lady of the Green Kirtle. This sorceress holds Prince Rilian captive, bound by a powerful enchantment that has caused him to lose all memory of his true identity and his father's kingdom. Under the Lady's spell, Rilian believes himself to be a subject of her dark realm, oblivious to his royal heritage and the desperate search for his return.
Within the Lady's underground kingdom, Eustace, Jill, and Puddleglum face their greatest challenges, both physical and mental. They must resist the Lady's seductive enchantments and the oppressive atmosphere of her domain. A pivotal scene occurs when, through the power of Aslan's name and the remnants of Rilian's true memories, the enchantment begins to break. The prince, though bound, briefly regains his senses, urging his rescuers to free him from his silver chair, the source of the Lady's magic.
The climax sees a confrontation with the Lady of the Green Kirtle in her true, monstrous form. Eustace, Jill, and Puddleglum, armed with courage and the strength of their convictions, battle the sorceress to break her hold on Rilian and the Underworld. Their eventual triumph leads to the prince's liberation and their long-awaited return to the aging King Caspian in Narnia, bringing a resolution to the kingdom's decade-long sorrow and fulfilling the task set forth by Aslan.
